This holiday on the cruiser is Kamal's gift to Neelam for their anniversary. Having planned the trip since long, they are also using it as a bait to solve two problems. One, request their only son Kabir Mehra (Ranveer Singh) to get married. The couple have also kept a condition that if Kabir gets married to the girl, Nuri (Ridhima Sud), who is their choice, he will be gifted a luxury sports car. Two, that their only daughter Ayesha Mehra (Priyanka Chopra) does not estrange her husband Manav (Rahul Bose), who she says is the most boring person she has ever met. The couple decide to solve these problems but end up arguing between themselves, as Neelam supports Ayesha's decision of divorce. Meanwhile, Kabir meets Farah Ali (Anushka Sharma), a passenger on the cruiser. They talk, have lunch together, and get closer, while Ayesha revives her relationship with her former beau Sunny Gill (Farhan Akhtar). What started as a pleasant trip for the couple becomes a harrowed experience and their own marriage begins to crumble as a result.
