Based on the life of Dashrath Manjhi, the film follows the life of one man and his attempt to hand-chisel a road through a mountain for love.



In the small village of Wazir Ganj, the village zamindar (Tigmanshu Dhulia) hands out atrocious punishments against the people, who fail to pay their debts. Growing up amidst the poverty and difficult times, is Dashrath (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), a young man who is married to a child bride. Dashrath wishes to escape the horrors faced by the villagers and flees the village, in search of greener pastures. Years later, he returns and falls in love with Phagunia (Radhika Apte), his child bride, who has now grown up into a beautiful woman. The couple consummate their marriage and find happiness in each other’s company. However, their new-found bliss of marital life is short-lived when tragedy strikes. A heart-broken Dashrath is determined to put an end to these incidents which cost people their lives and takes upon himself the Herculean task of hand carving a path through the mountains. Will one man be able to overcome all hurdles and make Nature bow before his undeterred will and hard work?
