Vinil Mathew is an Indian ad filmmaker, writer and film director who made his directorial debut with the film, Hasee Toh Phasee. Born in a Malayali family in Delhi, Vinil completed his education from St. Columba’s School. He was studying Economics honors at Delhi College, but left it, as he got selected for direction course at the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII). After moving to Mumbai in 2000, he started assisting Prasoon Pandey. He founded his own Ad Company in 2002, Nomad films, which did not turn out to be a successful venture and joined Footcandles. He went on to work for around 250 ads and campaigns like Airtel, Reliance and The Times of India among others. He made his Bollywood directorial debut with Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), which received moderate critical and commercial success. His latest project include directing the Vogue Empower Woman Empowerment Ad Campaign. Vinil is married to Shweta Venkat, who is a Bollywood editor. Together, they have two sons, Kiaan & Liam.
