Upendra Sidhaye is an Indian screenwriter who impressed the critics with his screenplay for Mumbai Meri Jaan. He has also written the screenplay for the upcoming film, Drishyam. Born and brought up in Pune, Upendra earned a degree in commerce and a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from Pune University. While still in college, he started preparing himself for a career in films and joined the theatre group Maitree. He acted in and directed a few plays which earned him much recognition. Upendra also wrote and directed two short films - 3 Khwaab and Waiting Room. Sidhaye was hired as an in-house writer by UTV Motion Pictures and made a breakthrough with his screenplay for Nishikant Kamat’s Mumbai Meri Jaan (2008), which he co-wrote with Yogesh Vinayak Joshi. The duo also earned the Filmfare and Cine Blitz Award for the Best Screenplay. He went on to write the screenplay for Payback (2010) and Blood Money (2012). Upendra’s next film was the critically acclaimed Killa (2014), which received a special mention at the Berlin Film festival. He has also written the screenplay of the upcoming Ajay Devgan-Shriya Saran starrer Drishyam, which will be releasing on 31st July, 2015.
