Biography

Sulaiman Merchant is an Indian music composer, who along with his brother Salim Merchant, has composed superhit music for films like Chak De India and Fashion among others. Born in a Muslim family in Bhuj, Sulaiman had taken up tabla training under the able guidance of legendary tabla players Taufiq Qureshi and Ustad Zakir Hussain. Sulaiman along with brother Salim, South African singer Loyiso Bala and Kenyan singer and song writer Eric Wainaina, has composed the anthem ‘Africa – You’re A Star’ for 2010 FIFA World Cup. Together the brother duo, Sulaiman and Salim have composed superhit songs for several popular movies, which include Bhoot (2003), Kaal (2005), Iqbal (2006), Dor (2006), Chak De! India (2007), Aaja Nachle (2007), Fashion (2008), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), Kurbaan (2009), Ladies vs Ricky Bahl (2011), Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), Aazaan (2011), Heroine (2012), Satyagraha (2013) and more recently for Mardaani (2014), Ungli (2014) and 22 Yards (2014). They have also composed music for American television series Wonder Pets (2009). They are also noted background score composers, and have given so for numerous films like Hameshaa (1997), Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi (1999), Hum Tum (2004), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Dhoom (2004), Fanaa (2006), Krrish (2006), Dhoom 2 (2006), Race (2008), Anjaana Anjaani (2010), Cocktail (2012), Krrish 3 (2013) and more recently in Bang Bang (2014) among many more. They have also composed the background score for television series Koffee with Karan and Telugu movie Anaganaga O Dheerudu. ail (2012), Krrish 3 (2013) and more recently in Bang Bang (2014) among many more. Their latest projects include composing songs for the film, Wedding Pullav (2015) and Jeffrey D. Brown’s Hollywood movie Sold.
