Biography

Soni Razdan is a British-born Indian actor and film director. She was born on 25th October, 1956 to Gertrude Hoelzer and N. Razdan in Birmingham, UK. She began her acting career in English theatre with The Collector, written by John Fowler and Hindi stage career with the Satyadev Dubey’s adapted version of Satre’s No Exit and Bund Darwaze. Later she appeared as Sulochana in Doordarshan’s hit TV show Buniyaad. She has been consistently working in Indian TV serials, namely, Gaatha, Saahil, among others. In the year 2002, she switched from acting to directing shows. Her first directorial venture Aur Phir Ek Din (2002) aired on Star Plus. She has been nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has done versatile roles in numerous movies, some of which are Ahista Ahista (1981), Mandi (1983), Saaransh (1984), Trikaal (1985), Khamosh (1985), Such a Long Journey (1988), Sadak (1991), Sir (1993), Gumrah (1993), Monsoon Wedding (2001), Page 3 (2005), Jaan-E-Mann (2006), Patiala House (2011), Love Breakups Zindagi (2011) and Shootout at Wadala (2013). She has directed the movie Nazar (2005), which was her directorial debut. She was recently seen promoting Garnier Fructis Oil-in-Cream, a haircare product along with daughter Alia. She got married to Indian film director and producer, Mahesh Bhatt in 1986 and has two children Alia and Shaheen Bhatt. She is the step mother of Pooja and Rahul Bhatt.
