Biography

Often hailed as one of the superstars of the new generation, Sonakshi shot to fame with her debut film, Dabangg. She continued to win hearts with her performances in Rowdy Rathore, Dabnagg 2 and the critically acclaimed Lootera. Sonakshi is the daughter of famous actor and politician Shatrughan Sinha and actress Poonam Sinha and has two elder twin siblings Luv and Kush Sinha. She completed her schooling from Arya Vidya Mandir, Mumbai and pursued Fashion Designing from Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University, Mumbai. Sonakshi started her career as a costume designer and worked on the film Mera Dil Leke Dekho (2005). She also walked the ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2008 & 2009. Sinha made her debut in Bollywood in 2010 starring opposite Salman Khan in the film Dabangg which was a huge success and for which she received positive reviews. She won the IIFA Award among others for the category “Best Female Debut” for her film Dabangg. In 2012 she acted opposite Akshay Kumar in Rowdy Rathore which proved to be a blockbuster. Her films Son Of Sardar (2012) and Dabangg 2 (2012) also did extremely well at the box office. As a result of the strong collections that her films gathered, she won the ETC Business Awards as the Highest Grossing Actress of 2012. Sinha also appeared in Milan Luthria's crime romance film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara (2013), Prabhu Deva’s R… Rajkumar (2013) and Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Bullet Raja (2013). She went on to win the BIG Star Entertainment Award in the category “Most Entertaining Actor in a Romantic Role-Female” for her film Lootera (2013). Some of her latest films are Action Jackson (2014) and Tevar (2015). In 2014, she made her debut in Tamil films with Lingaa, opposite Rajinikanth. Her upcoming films include Namaste England (2016), Force 2 (2016), Akira (2016) and Haseena - The Queen of Mumbai (2016). Apart from films, she also featured in the music video “Superstar” by Yo Yo Honey Singh and lent her voice to Jewel in the Hindi dubbing of Rio 2 (2011). She featured on the cover of Maxim magazine for the December, 2010 edition. Among brand endorsements, Sonakshi has many brands to her name like Emami, Rajhans Group, Dyna, D’damas and Dabur. Sinha is an animal lover and she posed for a PETA campaign in August, 2013. Sinha also jointly bought a team in the World Kabaddi League.
