Shriya Saran is an Indian film actress, best known in Bollywood for her role in Awarapan. Born in Dehradun, Shriya spent much of her early life in Haridwar. She studied at LSR College, Delhi. Her dance master gave her an opportunity to be a part of the music video Thirakti Kyun Hawa (2001), which brought her wide recognition and she was signed for the Telugu film Ishtam (2001). Even before it released, she had signed three mega-budget films Santosham (2002), Nuvve Nuvve (2002) and Tagore (2003). Santhosham became her first commercial hit. She debuted in the Tamil movie industry with Enakku 20 Unakku 18 (2003) and did a supporting role in Bollywood’s Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003). Saran rose to the peak of success with the blockbuster hit, Sivaji: The Boss (2007), alongside Rajinikanth which was screened at the International Indian Film Academy Awards. Saran worked in the English films, The Other End of the Line (2008) and Cooking with Stella (2010). In the last 14 years, Saran has appeared in over 60 movies, having worked in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannad a and Hindi. She has featured in films like Chatrapathi (2005), Ek (2009), Mission Istanbul (2008), Casanovva (2012), Midnight’s Chlidren (2012), Pavitra (2013) and Chandra (2014). She recently appeared in a dance number for the film Zila Ghaziabad (2013). She received the Stardust Award for Exciting New Face (2009), ITFA Best Actress Award (2011), Amrita Mathrubhumi Best Actress award (2010) and South Scope Style Award. Apart from acting, she has endorsed brands like Fair & Lovely, Pond’s cream, Head & Shoulders, Coca Cola and Lux. She also has other brands like Brook Bond Taj Mahal Tea, United Biscuits and Colgate in her list of endorsements. Shriya is into many charitable institutions like Prevention of AIDS foundation, Blue Cross of India, World Vision, SACH foundation and Naandi foundation and also performs at concerts to raise funds for these causes. Being a supporter and advocate for the visually challenged people, she opened a spa in 2011 which hires only the visually impaired as employees. After Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, Shriya was the third person from the film fraternity to deliver lectures at IIM-A and IIT (Madras) on film branding and history of films respectively. Saran is also the brand ambassador of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), an initiative that brings together films and cricket. She has also been featured on the cover of Maxim, India, Jade and South Scope. Shriya will be seen as a lead actress in Bollywood’s much awaited, Drishyam (2015) opposite Ajay Devgan.
