Biography

Sanjay Mishra is an Indian film and TV actor. He work in comedy has been acclaimed and admired courtesy the likes of his roles in films like Golmaal and Phas Gaya Re Obama, for which he won a Star Screen Award in 2011. It is contrary to his preliminary work since his debut in Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India! had a serious undertone, with roles in Satya and Rajkumar. Born in Patna, Bihar in October 1973, Sanjay Mishra’s father, Shambhu Nath Mishra, was a renowned journalist. After his stint at National School Of Drama, Sanjay Mishra had to make do with bit part roles in TV and commercials. He broke through with a role in DD’s period drama, Chanakya. This exposure spawned more TV acting opportunities in shows like Sorry Meri Lorry and Kabhi Pass Kabhi Fail. In 1996, He made his Bollywood debut as a sideshow in Ketan Mehta’s Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India! The minor outing was followed by roles in Satya (1998) and Rajkumar (1996). He further established himself with roles in Dil Se (1998) and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000). But at the turn of the millennium, his most prominent role was as a useless bureaucrat in SAB TV’s popular sitcom Office Office. It would be 2006, before he finally quit television to focus on movies. His roles in Apna Sapna Money Money (2006)and Golmaal (2006) became very popular. Also in the interim, he was seen in supporting roles in Saathiya (2002), Tango Charlie (2005) and Charas (2004). Sanjai Mishra then became a staple in comedic supporting roles. He was prominent as the fast food vendor in Pappu Can’t Dance Saala (2010) and as Lingam in Shor In The City (2010). He finally landed an award for essaying Bhai Saab in 2010’s satirical take on the recession, Phas Gaya Re Obama (2010). For his part, Sanjai Sharma landed a Star Screen Award for Best Comedic Performance. Thereafter, he continued to feature in big banner productions, like the Salman Khan starrer Kick (2014). Before that he also made his lead role debut in Ankhon Dekhi (2014), under the stewardship of good friend Rajat Kapoor, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Critics). His latest projects include roles in Meeruthiya Gangsters (2015) Dilwale (2015), Gun Pe Done (2015) and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015). He became friends with actor-director Tigmanshu Dhulia, actor Irrfan Khan and Late. Nirmal Pandey.
