Biography

Riteish Deshmukh is an Indian actor who is well known for films like Housefull, Masti and Ek Villain. Riteish is the son of the Late. Vilasrao Deshmukh, the ex-Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, GOI and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Riteish graduated with a degree in architecture from Kamla Raheja Vidyanidhi Institute for Architecture and Environmental Studies. After practising at an architectural firm abroad, he returned to India. In 2003 Ritesh Deshmukh debuted with the movie Tujhe Meri Kasam opposite Genelia D’souza. He co-starred with Genelia again in 2004 in the film Masti, which was successful and established him as a promising supporting actor. It also earned him the Star Screen and Zee Cine awards for the best comedian. Later he appeared in Kyaa Kool Hai Hum (2004), Malamaal Weekly (2006) and Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), which were all comedy films. In movies like Bluffmaster! (2005) and Darna Zaroori Hai (2006), Ritesh appeared in supporting roles. He also won the Stardust Best supporting actor and Zee Cine best comedian award for Bluffmaster! In 2007, he co-starred with Akshay Kumar and Fardeen Khan in Heyy Babyy and he also appeared in the comedy movie Dhamaal in the same year. He co-starred with Amitabh Bachchan, among others in two movies namely Aladdin and Rann in 2009. The third film that he appeared in 2009 was Do Knot Disturb along with Govinda and Sushmita Sen. Housefull in which he shared movie space with Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Lara Dutta, turned out to be a big success for him. He also bagged roles in the sequels to Masti and Housefull. In 2014, he debuted in Marathi films with Lai Bhaari which turned out to be the highest grossing Marathi film till date. The movie also bagged several awards, among which was the IIFA award for the best regional film and Riteish won the Zee Talkies Maharashtracha Favourite Actor Award. The same year, he appeared as a negative character in Ek Villain. This earned him an IIFA nomination for the best actor in a negative role. However, he won the IIFA award for the best actor in a supporting role for the same. His upcoming films include Bangistan (2015) and Housefull 3 (2016). He will also be acting in Great Grand Masti and Bank Chor, the dates of which are yet to be announced. Apart from films, Riteish is still into architecture and maintains ownership at an India based architectural and interior designing firm called Evolutions. In 2013, he launched his production house called Mumbai Film Company and produced the Marathi film Balak Palak. He also co-owns the cricket team, Veer Maratha in the Celebrity Cricket League, with his brother and has impressed everyone with his cricketing skills. Riteish has also been appreciated for hosting several award shows and his quick wit has won many hearts. He married his long time actress-girlfriend Genelia in 2012 and the couple was blessed with a son, Riaan, in 2014.
