Biography

Randeep Hooda is an Indian film and theatre actor associated with Bollywood and is best known for his performances in Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster among many more. Born in Rohtak, Haryana into a Jat family, Randeep completed his schooling from Motilal Nehru School of Sports where he was also involved in swimming and equestrian sports, often winning National Level medals. Randeep was born to Dr. Ranbir Hooda and Asha Hooda, a social worker and was named Randeep Singh Hooda at birth. His elder sister, Dr. Anjali Hooda Sangwan is a trained obesity medicine specialist and his younger brother, Sandeep is a software engineer. Randeep developed an interest in acting and started participating in school theatre productions. However, after his schooling, Randeep moved to Melbourne in 1995 and received a bachelor’s degree in marketing and master’s degree in business management and human resource management. In 2000, he returned to India and started working in the marketing team of an airline company, while pursuing modelling and acting in amateur theatre in Delhi. It was around this time, that he received a call for an audition for Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding (2001), where he bagged the role. Before starring in his next film, Randeep did theatre and TV commercials, attending the imagination and improvisation workshop conducted by Naseeruddin Shah at National School of Drama, New Delhi. He starred as the lead in Ram Gopal Varma’s film, D (2005), four years since his debut and his performance was applauded by the critics. However, he went on to star in a string of commercially unsuccessful films like Darna Zaroori Hai (2006), Risk (2007), Ru Ba Ru (2008), Karma Aur Holi (2009) and Love Khichdi (2009) before getting his breakthrough in Milan Luthria’s film, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai (2010) playing the role of a cop in a supporting role. The film was a critical and commercial success and his performance was applauded by the critics. He went on to star as the gangster in the film, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster (2011), which added further plaudits, as the film was a critical and commercial success. He went on to star in successful films like Jannat 2 (2012) and Jism 2 (2012) followed by Heroine (2012) co-starring Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Shahana Goswami which was a critical and commercial failure. His role as the lead in the film, Murder 3 (2013) garnered mixed reviews but was an average grosser at the box office. Randeep received mixed to positive criticism for films like John Day (2013), Rang Rasiya (2014) and Ungli (2014) and met success with films like Highway (2014) and Kick (2014). Highway also earned him a Stardust award for the best actor. His upcoming projects include roles in Beeba Boys (2015), Main Aur Charles (2015), Do Lafzon Ki Kahani (2015) and Yeh Laal Rang (2016). Apart from acting, Randeep is a theatre guru and is an avid equestrian sports player and participates in Polo and Show Jumping. He also writes and contributes to blogs and columns in newspapers along with being a social activist who supports Kapil Dev’s NGO and anti-suicide initiatives. Randeep is considered among the hottest and sexiest actors in Bollywood and ranked 21st in the Annual List of 50 Most Desirable Men. He was in a relationship with actress Sushmita Sen but they broke up in 2006.
