Biography

Radhika Apte is an Indian film and stage actress, well-known for her roles in Shor in the City, Hunterrr and Badlapur. Apte hails from the Marathi community and was born to Pune's leading neurosurgeon, Dr. Charudutt Apte. He was also the Chairman of the Sahyadri Hospital. After completing her graduation in Economics and Maths from Fergusson College, Pune, she did a few films and then went abroad to study contemporary dance. She completed her course from London's Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. She stepped into films with a small role in the film Vaah! Life Ho to Aisi! (2005). After a few more unsuccessful attempts, Radhika was offered a role in the Bengali film Antaheen (2009) along with Aparna Sen, Sharmila Tagore and Rahul Bose, where she played the role of a TV journalist. Her performance brought her much recognition. In the same year, she debuted in Marathi Cinema with KBC Productions' Gho Mala Asla Hava. She later appeared in a critically acclaimed role in Ram Gopal Varma's Rakta Charitra (2010) and its sequel. Radhika was also part of the films I Am (2011) and Shor in the City (2011). Post these films, she performed in a Marathi film Ha Bharat Majha (2012), which was inspired by Anna Hazare's movement and was screened at various film festivals. Besides films, she has also acted for Mohit Takalkar's theatre group Aasakta. For the Tamil film Dhoni (2012), Radhika was nominated for the SIIMA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. In 2014, she also appeared in the Marathi blockbuster, Lai Bhaari (2014). She was last seen in Harshvardhan Kulkarni's Hunterr (2015), where her character received good reviews. In recent times, she appeared in Sujoy Ghosh's short film Ahalya (2015), alongside Tota Roy Chowdhury and Soumitra Chaterjee. Radhika has many upcoming films in various languages. Her latest projects include Manjhi - The Mountain Man (2015), Kaun Kitne Paani Me (2015), The Field (2015), X: Past Is Present (2015) and The Bright Day (2015). She will also be seen in Pia Sukanya's Bombairiya, which is expected to release next year. In 2012, Radhika married musician Benedict Taylor, whom she had met while studying in London.
