Biography

Pritam Chakraborty is an Indian composer, singer and sound engineer who hails from a Bengali family of musical background. He is best known for his music in Life...In a Metro, Gangster and Barfi! Pritam, who hails from Kolkata, joined Presidency College after completing his schooling from St. James, Kolkata. He formed a band Jotugriher Pakhi while studying in Presidency. Later he joined the Bangla band, Chandrabindoo. In 1993, he pursued Sound engineering at FTII and moved to Mumbai. He began with composing ad jingles for Santro, Emami, Head and Shoulders and title tracks for serials like Kavyanjali, Yeh Meri Life Hain, Remix, Mili, Krishna Arjun and Kyun Hota Hai Pyaar. Pritam’s first break was Sanjay Gadhvi’s Tere Liye (2001), along with Jeet. In 2002, they were signed for YRF’s Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai which brought him critical acclaim and recognition. He debuted as a solo composer with Fun2shh (2003). His next project Dhoom (2004), was a runaway success with Dhoom Machale topping the charts and since then Pritam has given countless hit and popular songs. He’s composed for over hundred films, the most memorable being Gangster (2006), Woh Lamhe (2006), Dhoom 2 (2006), Life In a Metro (2007), Awarapan (2007), Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), Jab We Met (2007), Race (2008), Jannat (2008), Love Aaj Kal (2009), Once Upon A time in Mumbai (2010), Bodyguard (2011), Cocktail (2012), Barfi (2012), Ye Jawani Hai Deewani (2013) and Holiday (2014). In 2015, he composed the music for the Salman Khan starrer, blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The composer has won over 12 Filmfare Awards apart from multiple Zee Cine Awards and IIFA awards. He also gained international recognition with the Asia pacific Screen Awards for Barfi! Pritam has won over 30 awards in his career of 15 years. However, he has also been in the news when he was accused of plagiarising songs. His upcoming films are Phantom (2015), Dilwale (2015), Raabta (2016), Dishoom (2016), Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016) and Azhar (2016). Pritam is married to Smita Chakraborty and they live in Mumbai.
