Preity Zinta is an Indian film actress who made her debut with Mani Ratnam’s Dil Se. She has won numerous national and international awards throughout her career including two Filmfare awards and a Silver Hugo Award for Best Actress.
Preity Zinta made her debut in 1998 with a supporting role in the award-winning drama Dil Se, and a leading role in the film Soldier. For her work in both the films, she won the Filmfare Best Female Debut award. Consequently, her role of a single mother in Kya Kehna (2000) got her much critical acclaim. Post 2000, Zinta acted in some of the defining films of Bollywood in the 2000s including Dil Chahta Hai (2001), The Hero (2003), Koi... Mil Gaya (2003), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Lakshya (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), and Jaan-E-Mann (2008).
She has been nominated seven times for a Filmfare award. In 2008, she acted in Deepa Mehta’s Canadian drama Heaven On Earth which brought her worldwide attention owing to her nomination at several Canadian award functions, and winning the Best Actress award at the 2008 Chicago International Film Festival.
Her most recent film appearance was in Happy Ending (2014).
In addition to industry honors, Zinta has received several achievement awards for both her film career and her social activities. She has written columns for BBC Online News. She is a recipient of the prestigious Godfrey Phillips National Bravery - Mind Of Steel Award for her witness statement against the Indian mafia. In 2010, the University of East London awarded Zinta with an Honorary Doctorate of Arts in honor of both her cultural contribution and her humanitarian work.
Together with her ex-boyfriend Ness Wadia, she owns several businesses including a film production company and the Indian Premier League cricket team Kings XI Punjab.
Preity Zinta was born in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh to an Indian Army officer and his wife. She has two brothers, Deepankar and Manish. She has an English honors degree and is a postgraduate in Criminal Psychology.
Zinta briefly dated model Marc Robinson in 2000. Later, in 2005, she was in a relationship with businessman Ness Wadia which ended abruptly in 2009, and consequently worsened in 2014 after she filed a molestation case against him.
