Biography

After rising to fame with her debut film, Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl, Parineeti went on to deliver critically acclaimed performances in Ishaqzaade and Shuddh Desi Romance, among others. Born to Pawan Chopra, a businessman and supplier to Indian Army, and his wife Reena Chopra, Parineeti grew up in Ambala in a Punjabi household. She has two brothers - Shivang and Saraj. Actresses Priyanka Chopra, Meera Chopra and Mannara are her cousins. Chopra attended the Convent of Jesus and Mary in Ambala Cantonment and moved to London at 17, to pursue higher studies. In London, she enrolled at the Manchester Business School and received a triple honours in business, finance and economics. While in the United Kingdom, she served as the head of the catering department for the Manchester United Football Club. After coming back to India in 2009, she joined Yash Raj Films as an intern and later became a public-relations consultant. When she decided to quit her job to take up acting classes, she gave an audition at YRF and was signed for a three-film deal. Her first film was the romantic comedy Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl (2011), where she starred alongside Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma. The film earned her the Filmfare Award for the best female debut. The following year, she starred in Ishaqzaade, where she played a tomboy Muslim girl who marries a Hindu boy from a rival party. It won her a Special mention at the National Film Awards. In 2013, she starred alongside Sushant Singh Rajput in Shuddh Desi Romance, which received positive reviews and was praised by critics. The next year, she had three releases - Hasee Toh Phasee, Kill Dil and Daawat-E-Ishq. While Hasee Toh Phasee gather positive responses, the others failed to create a buzz at the box office. Among brands, she has endorsed Maaza, Nivea, WeChat, SpinZ, Mahindra Scooty and Kurkure. She also appeared on Verve’s list of most powerful women, 2011 and Rediff’s annual list of best actresses, the following year. Parineeti has also walked the ramp at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week for Shabana Azmi’s NGO, Azmi Mijwan Welfare Society, which works for the empowerment of girls.
