Biography

Paresh Rawal is a celebrated Indian actor, known for his roles in films like Hera Pheri, Golmaal and OMG - Oh My God! Paresh Rawal was born in Mumbai and graduated from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce & Economics, Vile Parle, Mumbai. Paresh made his acting debut in 1984 with the film Holi in a supporting role. His next film, Naam, was released in 1986, and turned out to be a blockbuster. The success of this film established him as an actor. In 1994 he won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film Woh Chokri & Sir. In 1993, he also received Filmfare Best Villain Award for Sir. Paresh has worked in more than hundred films till date. In the 90s, some of his most memorable roles were in Krodh (1990), King Uncle (1993), Damini (1993), Sir (1993), Sardar (1994), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Krantiveer (1994), Chachi 420 (1997), China Gate (1998) and Khoobsurat (1999). Paresh’s portrayal of Vallabhai Patel in Sardar earned him international acclaim. His most notable film has been the comedy Hera Pheri (2000). His role of Babu Rao immediately became among the audiences and his dialogues still provide comic relief to many. He followed up the success of Hera Pheri with more memorable roles in films like Nayak (2001), Aankhen (2002), Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), Hungama (2003) and Hulchul (2004). The year 2006 was a good year for Paresh Rawal and he starred in successful films like Malamaal Weekly, Phir Hera Pheri, Golmaal and Bhagam Bhag. In more recent years, he appeared in films like OMG - Oh My God! (2012), a film which earned him much critical acclaim, Raja Natwarlal (2014) and Dharam Sankat Mein (2015). Paresh Rawal also turned producer for OMG - Oh My God!. In 2014, he received the Padma Shri by the Government of India, for his contribution to the Indian Cinema. His upcoming film is the sequel to the comedy blockbuster, Welcome, titled Welcome Back, which will be releasing on 4th September, 2015. Currently he is an active member of the Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament and belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Paresh is married to Swaroop Sampat, an actress and winner of the Miss India contest in 1979. The couple has two sons - Aditya and Aniruddha.
