Nishikanth Kamat, born in Malvan, Maharashtra, is a well-known director in the Marathi and Hindi film industry. Some of his well-known works include Dombivali Fast, Mumbai Meri Jaan and Force. Nishikant Kamat began his career as an actor in the Hindi film Hava Aney Dey (2004) and the Marathi film Saatchya Aat Gharat (2004). Soon, he made his debut as a director with the film Dombivali Fast (2005), which was well appreciated by film critics and became the biggest Marathi film of the year. It also won the National Film Award for Best Regional Film (2006). He remade this film, in Tamil with R. Madhavan in the lead, as Evano Oruvan. In 2008, he debuted in Bollywood as a director with Mumbai Meri Jaan, based on the 2006 Mumbai Bomb Blasts, starring R. Madhavan and Soha Ali Khan. The film won the Filmfare award for best editing and best screenplay. It also won the Filmfare critics Award for the Best Film. Kamat re-appeared as an actor in the film '404 – Error Not Found' in the year 2011 and Peddlers (2016). He proceeded to direct the action thriller 'Force' – a remake of Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha – starring John Abraham, Vidyut Jamwal and Genelia D'Souza. Though it got mixed reviews from critics and audiences, it was a commercial hit at the box office. He then directed the Marathi flick Lai Bhaari (2014) which became the highest grossing Marathi film ever. Kamat is all set to release the Ajay Devgan starrer, thriller drama film Drishyam in 2015, a remake of the Malayalam film with the same name. His other upcoming films also include Rocky Handsome (2015).
