Nikhil Advani is an Indian director, producer and writer, known for films like Kal Ho Naa Ho and D-Day. Writer, producer and director, Nikhil Advani is a man of many talents. Advani’s father has a pharmaceutical business and his mother is in advertising. After completing his schooling from Green Lawns High School, Mumbai, he went on to pursue a master’s degree in chemistry from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. He also happens to be the grand nephew of late producer N.N Sippy and is second cousin to Tusshar and Ekta Kapoor. Nikhil Advani started out as an assistant director and worked with the likes of Aziz Mirza and Sudhir Mishra. He worked on Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi (1996) for which he also co-wrote the screenplay. His breakthrough came while assisting Karan Johar on Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Ghum (2001) who later gave him the chance to direct his first film under the banner of Dharma Productions. He has also assisted Aditya Chopra on Mohabbatein (2000). Nikhil’s first film Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta, was a raging success and the biggest blockbuster of the year. The film earned him the Star Guild Award for the best debut director. His next venture Saalam-E-Ishq, a multi-starrer, opened to mixed reviews. Even his subsequent film, Chandni Chowk to China (2009) didn’t do well at the Box Office. He also did his next film with Akshay Kumar, titled Patiala House (2011). Nikhil also wrote the script for and directed the stereoscopic 3D animation film, Delhi Safari (2012), which was a comedy. The film won the National Award for the best animation film. Following this film, he co-founded Emmay Entertainment, with Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani. The production company’s first film was D-Day (2013), which was directed by Nikhil. His upcoming films include Hero (2015) which will launch Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty and Katti Batti (2015) with Imran Khan and Kangana Ranaut. He is also producing the movie Airlift (2016) with Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur. On the social front, Advani is on the advisory board of the Save the Tiger’s cause. He has also worked with the notable ecologist Bittu Sehgal. Nikhil is married to his college sweetheart Suparna Gupta and the couple has a daughter, Keya. He stays in Mumbai.
