With a career spanning over four decades, Naseeruddin Shah is a veteran Indian film and stage actor and director who is considered to among the best actors of all time. Born in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. Naseeruddin completed in graduation in Arts from Aligarh Muslim University, before attending the National School of Drama in Delhi. He made his acting debut in Shyam Benegal’s Hindi drama film Nishant (1975). Since then, he has acted in movies with memorable roles such as Junoon (1978), Sparsh (1979), Aakrosh (1980), Bhavni Bhavai (1980), Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai(1980), Katha (1983), Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983), Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984), and Mirch Masala (1985) and Trikaal (1985). His performance in the Indian drama film Masoom (1983), opposite Shabana Azmi was highly appreciated. He was a part of the Merchant Ivory English language movie The Perfect Murder (1988), alongside his wife Ratna Pathak. He also acted in the Bollywood multi starrer films such as Ghulami (1985), Tridev (1989) and Vishwatma (1992). Naseeruddin made his debut in the Malayalam film industry with the drama film Ponthan Mada (1994). As far as, the Hindi cinema is concerned, he received a special mention for his roles in movies such as Sarfarosh (1999), Hey Ram (2000), Iqbal (2005) and A Wednesday (2008). In the year 2001, Shah starred in the movie Monsoon Wedding. Two years later, he appeared in the Hollywood super hero film The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003). He then starred in movies such as Maqbool (2003), Asambhav (2004), The Great New Wonderful (2005) and The Dirty Picture (2011). Recently, he was seen in Hindi movies like Finding Fanny (2014), Dirty Politics (2015) and Dharam Sankat Mein (2015). Shah has acted in two Pakistani movies as well, namely Khuda Ke Liye (2007) and Zinda Bhaag (2013). He made his directorial debut with the Hindi drama movie Yun Hota To Kya Hota (2006). With such an illustrious career, he has received numerous awards that include the Filmfare Best Actor Award for movies such as Aakrosh (1980), Chakra (1981) and Masoom (1983). He has won three National Film Awards. He received the Volpi Cup – Award for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival for his movie Paar (1984). He was awarded with the Padma Shri followed by the Padma Bhushan in the years 1987 and 2003 respectively. Naseeruddin is married to actress, Ratna Pathak and has two sons, Imaad Shah and Vivaan Shah, both of them actors and one daughter, Heeba Shah.
