Namrata Rao is a National Award winning Indian film editor who is associated with Bollywood and is best known for her works for films like Kahani, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and 2 States among others. Born in Delhi, before entering the film industry, Namrata was pursuing a career in Information Technology. She also worked as a graphic designer and had a brief stint with NDTV. Eventually, she decided to study film making at Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkatta. Namarata made her debut as an editor in Hindi cinema with the black comedy Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008). However, prior to that she had edited a short television documentary, Three Blind Men (2008). Namrata has since, edited superhit films which include Ishqiya (2010), LSD: Love, Sex Aur Dhokha (2010) for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Editing, Band Baaja Baaraat (2011), Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl (2011), Kahaani (2012) for which she won the National Film Award and Filmfare Award for Best Editing Shanghai (2012), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and 2 States (2014) In the year 2013, she edited the documentary Katiyabaaz. She has also edited one episode for the television series documentary Independent Lens (2014). Apart from editing, Namarata has written and directed the television movie documentary Dahleez Paar (2008). Her latest projects include editing fir films like Titli (2014), 2 States (2014), Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015) and Fan (2016).
