Biography

Manish Mundra is an Indian producer known for producing international award winning films like Masaan, Dhanak and Umrika. His debut production Ankhon Dekhi also bagged multiple awards at the Filmfare Awards. Born in Deogarh, Manish is a native of Rajasthan and spent his childhood days in Bihar. He earned an MBA degree from Jodhpur University and moved up the corporate ladder to become the managing director of Indoroma Petrochemical Plant. Soon, he decided to pursue his passion for films and became a producer with Rajat Kapoor’s Ankhon Dekhi (2014). The film, which starred Sanjay Mishra as the lead, bagged the Best Film (Critics’ Choice), Best Story and Best Actor - Male (Critics’ Choice) awards at the Filmfare Awards. He followed up the success of his first film with internationally acclaimed films like Dhanak (2015) and Umrika (2015). He co-produced Umrika with Swati Shetty and Dhanak with Nagesh Kukunoor. Umrika is the first Indian film to win an audience Award at the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States. Dhanak won the The Grand Prix of the Generation Kplus International Jury Award for the best feature-length film at the 65th Berlin International FIlm Festival. Mundra then co-produced the internationally acclaimed Masaan with Phantom films and international producers Arte, Macassar and Pathe. The film which has already bagged awards at the prestigious Cannes Films Festival, will be released in India on 24th July, 2015. Manish has set up a production company called Drishyam Films in Mumbai. He has also set up the Drishyam-Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab in Mumbai, which aims to promote upcoming filmmakers. His upcoming productions also include debutant Shiladitya Bora’s film Minefield, Anu Menon’s Waiting, Prashant Nair's Umrica (2015) and an experimental film, titled X (2015), which will be directed by multiple directors.
