Biography

Before rising to fame as a part of the celebrated trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Loy was a notable composer who composed the signature tune for “The World This Week”, which was aired on Doordarshan. After starting his career as an individual composer, Loy soon collaborated with Shankar and Ehsaan to form the musical trio, which would become one of the greatest names in the industry. Loy, who plays the piano and other keyboards, has composed music for popular composers like A. R. Rehman and Nadeem-Shravan. As a trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy won the National Award in 2004 for composing the music of Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003). Some of their most memorable compositions were for films like Rockford (1999), Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Rock On!! (2008), Wake Up Sid (2009), Patiala House (2011), 2 States (2014) and Dil Dhadakne Do (2015). The trio has also earned numerous Filmfare and Star Screen Awards for their compositions, among other prestigious awards. They have also composed the music for the upcoming films Katti Batti (2015) and Ghayal Once Again (2015). Apart from films, the trio have composed jingles for brands like Coca Cola, Pepsi, Brooke Bond, ICICI and Lux. Loy’s daughter, Alyssa Mendonsa, stepped into Bollywood as a singer with the song “Uff Teri Ada” from the movie, Karthik Calling Karthik (2010).
