Biography

Kunal shot to fame with Rang De Basanti and was immediately tagged as one of the most talented actors in the industry. He then went on to give critically acclaimed performances in Lamhaa and Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. Kunal, was born into a Punjabi family, which hails from Amritsar. He trained under Barry John, founder-director of Theatre Action Group, to become an actor and joined Naseeruddin’s theatre group Motley. Kapoor stepped into Bollywood as an assistant director for Aks (2001), starring Amitabh Bachchan and Manoj Bajpai. Five years later, he debuted as an actor with Meenaxi: Tale of Three Cities, opposite Tabu. He came to the limelight in the same year, when appeared alongside Aamir Khan and others in Rang De Basanti. The film, which was a commercial and critical success, earned him the Filmfare nomination for best actor in a supporting role and catapulted him to stardom. He then bagged a three-film deal with YRF and went on to do Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007), Aaja Nachle (2007) and Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) with them. In 2008, he also appeared in Welcome to Sajjanpur. His next film, Lamhaa (2010), was critically acclaimed but failed to perform at the box office. The same year he also lent his voice to the character of Lord Rama, in the animation film, Mahayoddha Rama. Kunal also appeared in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, Don 2 (2011), where his performance was praised by critics. The subsequent year, he starred in the comedy Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, which was highly praised by critics but failed to impress audiences. His upcoming film is Nila Madhab Panda’s Kaun Kitney Paani Mein, which which will be releasing on 27th August, 2015. In 2015, he married Naina Bachchan, a neice of superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
