Biography

Often hailed as one of the most beautiful women in India, Katrina soared into the hearts of the audiences with Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? and continues to gain fan following all over the world, with her work in the industry. Born in Hong Kong to an English mother and a father of Kashmiri descent, Katrina grew up in a lot of places before finally moving to India. She took her mother’s surname as her parents separated when she was very young. However she changed it from Turquotte to Kaif when she joined the industry. She has seven siblings and most of them were home-schooled due to their frequent relocations across countries. Her mother, Suzanne, is a lawyer and a charity worker and has raised all the kids by herself. Katrina won a beauty contest in Hawaii at the age of fourteen and received her first modelling assignment for a jewellery campaign. After they moved to London, she continued to pursue modelling and was a frequent face at the London Fashion Week. She featured in the first Kingfisher Calendar (2003) and began endorsing brands like Coca-Cola, LG, Fevicol and Samsung. It was at one of these fashion shows that filmmaker Kaizad Gustad spotted her and cast her in his film Boom (2003). The film failed to impress the audiences and critics. The following year, she stepped into the Telugu film industry with Malliswari, which proved to be a successful venture. She then appeared in Ram Gopal Verma’s Sarkar (2005) in a supporting role. Her next was Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005) and she received appreciation for her acting skills in Raj Kanwar's unsuccessful Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006). Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? also won her the Stardust breakthrough performance - female. Katrina followed it up with successful films like Namastey London (2007), Apne (2007), Partner (2007), Welcome (2007), Race (2008) and Singh Is Kinng (2008). Her performance in Kabir Khan's terrorism drama New York (2009) impressed the critics and she delivered more blockbusters like Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), Rajneeti (2010), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012). Next in line were Dhoom 3 (2014) and Bang Bang! (2015). While the former was a blockbuster, the latter met with heavy criticism. Her latest film, Phantom (2015), also had a lukewarm response at the box office. Her upcoming projects are Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos (2015) and Abhishek Kapoor's Fitoor (2016). She has topped the poll of FHM India for the World’s Sexiest Woman from 2008-2013, among other similar polls. Katrina endorses brands like Slice, Nakshatra, Lux, L’Oreal and Panasonic. The actress also has to her credit, two Barbie dolls modelled after her by Mattel. She is well-known for her dancing skills and impressed people with her number in Dhoom 3. Katrina, inspired by her mother, is also involved with a lot of organizations that work for the betterment of the underprivileged. Apart from films, Kaif has performed at many award ceremonies and has walked the ramp for charity. Kaif was in a relationship with Salman Khan but they parted ways. She is a British citizen and resides in Mumbai, India.
