Karan Johar is one of the leading Bollywood filmmakers. He chiefly works as a director, screenwriter, costume designer, and television host. Most of his films have enjoyed international success and are lauded for their wholesomeness. For his work as a director and producer, Johar has won numerous awards including a National Film award and four Filmfare awards. Karan Johar was born in Mumbai. He is the son of Bollywood producer Yash Johar. After starting his film career as an assistant director, Johar made his directorial debut Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. The film was an international hit and won a National Film award and eight Filmfare awards. It is considered as one of the greatest romantic comedies of Bollywood. His next feature film, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), a family drama with an ensemble cast, broke all his previous records. Johar is known for his emotional dramas that are centered around Indian ideologies. Critics and audience have often regarded Johar’s stories as one that induces thought and sentimentality. His other films are Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), My Name Is Khan (2010), and Student Of The Year (2012). Johar often collaborates with Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, and it is with them that he has had his greatest hits. Through his production house, Dharma Productions, he has also produced numerous hit films like Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Dostana (2008), Wake Up Sid (2009), Agneepath (2012), Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013), and 2 States (2014). Although most films associated with him are successful, films like Kurbaan (2009), Gippi (2013), and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (2013) have been termed as disasters He made his full-fledged acting debut in Anurag Kashyap’s film Bombay Velvet (2015). Johar is also known for his hit talk show Koffee With Karan (2004) where he invites popular actors for candid interviews.
