Biography

Kalki Koechlin is an Indian actress of French descent. She was born in Kallaty, Tamil Nadu, and could only speak English, French and Tamil, before her big ticket Bollywood debut in Dev D in 2010. For her role as the young prostitute, Chanda, in Dev D, Kalki won the Filmfare Award for The Best Supporting Actress. She has also worked as a co-writer with ex-husband and director, Anurag Kashyap. Career: After earning widespread acclaim for her unconventional debut in Dev D, Kalki Koechlin remained inactive till the release of Shaitan in 2011, another Anurag Kashyap co-production. However, Kalki’s acting abilities had already been confirmed and she received another boost from her performance in Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara. She managed to garner critical acclaim as part of an illustrious star cast. The Girl In Yellow Boots, a movie Kalki co-wrote with Anurag Kashyap and starred in, further embellished her reputation as an actor, even though the movie itself received lukewarm response. In September 2013, Kalki was featured in All India Bakchodh’s viral video ‘It’s Your Fault’ with VJ Juhi as part of an Anti-Rape campaign. Kalki also has her own Theatre Group called Quaff Theatre, started in 2008. Personal Life: Kalki Koechlin got married to Anurag Kashyap in 2011, whom she had been dating since the release of Dev D. However, the couple announced in late 2013 that they were separating. Kalki’s parents are Aurobindo devotees. Her relative, Maurice Koechlin, was a French structural engineer involved in the design and construction of the Eiffel Tower.
