Biography

With a career spanning over four decades, Kader Khan is a veteran Indian film actor, comedian, dialogue writer and director who has over 300 film credits to his name. His comic timing in several films is considered to be the best. Born in Kabul, Afghanistan, Kader Khan was born into a Pashtun family, where he completed his education obtaining a Master’s Diploma in Engineering (MIE) from Institution of Engineers specializing in Civil Engineering. Before appearing in films, Kader Khan was a professor of civil engineering at the M.H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering, Byculla. Veteran actor Dilip Kumar was so impressed by Kader Khan’s acting talent when he saw his performance in one of the college plays, that he cast him in his film, Bairaag (1976), however Kader’s debut movie as an actor was Daag (1973). With over 250 credits as a dialogue writer and 300 credits as an actor, Kader Khan’s illustrious career include acting in several films like Muqaddar Ka Sikander (1978), Mr. Natwarlal (1979), Lawaaris (1981), Naseeb (1981), Coolie (1983), Biwi Ho to Aisi (1988), Baap Numbri to Beta Dus Numbri (1990) for which he won the FIlmfare Best Comedian Award, Aankhen (1993), Raja Babu (1994), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor and more recently in films like Deewana Main Deewana (2012), Ungli (2014), Tevar (2015) among others. His dialogues in several films like Meri Aawaz Suno (1981) and Angaar (1982) for which he won the FIlmfare Award for Best Dialogues, Lawaaris (1981), Satte Pe Satta (1982), Sharaabi (1984), Ganga Jamuna Saraswati (1988), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994) and Coolie No. 1 (1995) became iconic. His recent projects include roles in Welcome Back (2015), Ho Gaya Dimaag Ka Dahi (2015) and Hera Pheri 3 (2016). Kader Khan was felicitated by the American Federation of Muslims from India (AFMI) for his success and service to Muslims in India and the Sahitya Shiromani Award for contribution to Hindi cinema (2013). He also produced a film, Shama (1981) and acted on TV in shows like Hasna Mat and Hi! Padosi… Kaun Hai Doshi? (2011). Kader Khan currently resides in Mumbai and is married. He has three sons, one of them resides in Canada and other two are Shahnawaz Khan and Sarfaraz Khan, who is also an actor.
