Biography

Jeetendra a.k.a. the ‘Jumping Jack’ in the Indian Film Industry has had numerous accolades during his golden career span of viz. the Guest of Honour Award at the 18th Ujala Cinema Express Awards in 1998, the Lifetime Achievement Award in film personalities in 2000, the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Zee Gold Bollywood Movie Awards in New York in 2002, the "Legend of Indian Cinema" Award at the Atlantic City (United States) in 2004, the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003 and more. Career: Jeetendra was initially cast by V. Shantaram in the film "Navrang" as actress Sandhya's body double in Navrang in 1959. Then he got his first opportunity when Shantaram cast him as hero in Geet Gaya Pattharon Ne in 1964. Till now, he has worked in around 200 films. His unforgettable golden jubilee moment came with Ravikant Nagaich's Farz in 1967, which went on to become a huge success. His classic dancing in films like Farz, and Banphool gave him a super tag of ‘Jumping Jack’. His films like Justice Chaudhry in 1982, Mawaali in 1983, cult classic Himmatwala in 1983, Jaani Dost, and Tohfa in 1984 were massive successes. Gulzar’s directorial Khushboo alongside Hema Malini brought him oodles of critical acclaim and remains one of his best performances till date. Personal Life: Jeetendra was born as Ravi Kapoor on April 7, 1942 in Amritsar, Punjab. His father was in a business family that dealt with imitation jewellery. Actress Hema Malini, in her authorized biography, claimed that were to get married but it didn’t happen and he married his childhood friend, Shobha Kapoor, with whom he has a daughter, Ekta Kapoor, who bosses Balaji Telefilms and an actor son, Tusshar Kapoor.
