Appreciated for making unique and thought-provoking films, he is best known for Rockstar and Highway. Imitiaz Ali, born on June 16, 1971 to a Muslim family in Jamshedpur, is a talented and successful Indian writer, producer and director. He attended two schools while growing up – St.Michael’s high school in Patna and D.B.M.S English School in Jamshedpur. He attended theatre during his time in the Hindu College and formed a Dramatics Society, Ibtida. Later, he pursued Marketing and Advertising in Xavier Institute of Communication, Mumbai. He stepped into the industry with writing and directing TV Serials Imtehaan and Kurukshetra. He appeared in a cameo in Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday (2004). His directorial debut Socha Na Tha (2005) wasn’t a Box Office hit, but was well-appreciated. Imitiaz’s claim to fame was the quirky and vivacious love story, Jab We Met (2007), starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, which also won him the Filmfare, IIFA and Star Guild award for the best dialogue. His next venture Love Aaj Kal (2009), starring Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, was another blockbuster. His next release, the romantic drama Rockstar (2011), again succeeded in winning the hearts of the audience. He was the screen writer for the emotional roller coaster, Cocktail (2012). Highway (2014), starring Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda, a love story challenging the conventional society, was the first film under his production company, Window Seat Films. This successful film also earned him the best director’s award at the Stardust Awards. Up next is his Tamasha (2015), a romantic drama starring Ranbir and Deepika. He is married to Preety Ali and has a daughter named Ida from the marriage. He was also linked to Pakistani actress Iman Ali and currently resides in Mumbai.
