Biography

After rising to fame with her debut role in Gangs of Wasseypur, Huma impressed audiences and critics once more with films like D-Day, Ek Thi Daayan and Shorts. Huma Qureshi was born in Delhi. Her father, Saleem Quraishi, is a restaurateur who runs a chain of restaurants (Saleem's); her mother, Ameena Qureshi (a Kashmiri), is a housewife. She has three brothers: Naeem Qureshi, Haseen Qureshi and actor Saqib Saleem. She grew up in Kalkaji, Greater Kailash, South Delhi. Qureshi did her History Honours at the Gargi College. Huma initially worked in theatre productions in Delhi like the Act 1 theatre group and also assisted a documentary filmmaker. She then appeared in television advertisements. She gained recognition with Anurag Kashyap signing her for a supporting role in Gangs of Wasseypur- Part 1 (2012) and the lead female in Part 2 (2012) as Mohsina. She earned critical acclaim and nominations in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Female Debut categories. Subsequently, Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012) earned her positive reviews. In 2013, she received critical acclaim for her portrayal of unconventional characters, like a witch in the Ek Thi Daayan (2013), a R.A.W.'s explosives genius in D-Day (2013) and a agony tolerating young girl in the short film Shorts for which she also received the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles – Special Mention. Her latest projects include X: Past Is Present (2015), Ghoomketu (2016) and Azhar (2016). She has featured in more than 15 advertisements for brands like Vita Marie, Saffola Oil, Mederma Cream, Samsung Guru, Pears Soap and Nerolac. Huma had signed a contract with Hindustan Unilever for two years for appearing in their commercials.
