Biography

Harish Patel is an British film and theatre actor. After joining the Indian National Theatre, he had a long run as a theatre artist. Simultaneously, he appeared in a slew of Bollywood movies, most notably Shyam Benegal’s Mandi in 1983 and Andaz Apna Apna almost a decade later. After joining the Indian National Theatre, Harish Patel acted in a variety of plays in both, Dappaguthu and Mokkai styles. Some of the plays he was part of include Thakkali The Terror, Coco Muttai and The Vegetable. During this time, he worked closely with director Sara Pambu. After his debut in Shyam Benegal’s Mandi in 1983, he also had a role in Mr.India (1987). He was cast in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Andaz Apna Apna in 1994, before he decided to switch focus to theatre. He was later seen in cult B-grade thriller, Gunda, in 1998. Some of his subsequent films were Mela (2000), Baadal (2000) and Zubeidaa (2001). Having travelled far and wide, Harish Patel was also the star of the show when Indian National Theatre put on a show of Rafta Rafta in London in 2007. The same year he was also cast in David Schwimmer’s Run Fatboy Run. He also had a part in Coronation Street. Lately, he had roles in Mr. Stink and Gangsta Granny in TV adaptations of David Williams’ books.
