Biography

Often applauded for his negative roles, Govind Namdeo has a career spanning over two decades and has delivered many critically acclaimed performances in films like Bandit Queen, Sarfarosh and Lajja. Govind Namdeo was born in Saugar, MP. He attended the National School of Drama and attended a short term course from Film and Television Institute of Pune. He has acted in over 50 Hindi films, and he has portrayed versatile roles. He made his debut with David Dhawan’s Shola Aur Shabnam (1992). Some of his best works include Chamatkar (1992), Aankhein (1993), Bandit Queen (1994), Prem (1995), Prem Granth (1996), Virasat (1997), Zor (1998), Satya (1998), Sarfarosh (1998), Thakshak (1999), Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (1999), Pukar (2000), Raju Chacha (2000), Lajja (2001), Badhaai Ho Badhaai (2002), Dil Hai Tumhara (2002), Pyaasa (2002), Satta (2003), Qayamat (2003), Garv: Pride and Honour (2004), Ranji Londonwaley (2005), Johnny Gaddaar (2007), Yuvraaj (2008), Sarkar Raj (2008), Prateeksha (2009), Tumhare Liye (2009), Wanted (2009), Jaane Bhi Do Yaron (2009), Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), Kabootar (2009), Dum Maaro Dum (2011), Singham (2011), Ammaa Ki Boli (2012), Jeena Hai Toh Thok Daal (2012), Heroine (2012), OMG – Oh My God! (2012), Ramaiya Vastavaiya (2013), Boss (2013) and Singham Returns (2014). He won the Best Actor at the Osian’’s Film Festival for Kabootar (2009). He also got nominated for Filmfare Best Villian Award (1999) for Satya (1998). His latest films are Gabbar Is Back (2015) and Dirty Politics (2015). Often portraying negative characters, Namdeo has earned his reputation for effortlessly pulling off menacing characters on screen. He has worked in numerous plays, his first being Tughluk, Cherry Orchard, Aazar Ka Khwab, Othello, Marco Millions and Andhayug. Govind Namdeo is married to Sudha Namdeo and they have three daughters.
