Widely regarded as the soap queen of India, Ekta Kapoor is an Indian TV and film producer who has also proved her mettle by producing blockbuster films like Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, The Dirty Picture and Shootout at Lokhandwala among others. Born in Mumbai, to veteran actor, Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor, Ekta completed her education from Bombay Scottish School and Mithibai College. She ventured into TV as a producer being the Creative Head of Balaji Telefilms with the show, Mano Ya Na Mano (1995) but got recognition with the sitcom, Hum Paanch (1995) which ran for around four years. After producing several soaps which included the critically acclaimed Koshish,,, Ek Aasha (2000), Ekta shot to fame with the shows Ghar Ek Mandir (2000) followed by Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2000-08) and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii (2000-08) where the latter two turned out to be the longest running TV drama soaps in history and received unprecedented success over their eight year long run. She also produced very successful shows like Kaahin Kissii Roz (2001), Kutumb (2001), Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2001), Kahiin Toh Hoga (2003), Kkavyanjali (2005), Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai (2005), Kasamh Se (2006), Pavitra Rishta (2009-14), Bade Acche Lagte Hain (2011-14) and reality shows like Gumrah: End of Innocence Season 1,2,3 & 4 (2012-14), V The Serial (2012), MTV Webbed 1 (2013) and most recently Nach Baliye 7 (2015). Enjoying a successful stint in TV, Ekta made her debut as a producer under Balaji Telefilms banner with the film, Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta (2001) followed by Kucch To Hai (2003) and Krishna Cottage (2004) all of which bombed at the box office. She first received success as a producer with the film, Kya Kool Hai Hum (2005) and went on to produce memorable and super successful films like Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007), Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai (2010), The Dirty Picture (2011) and Shootout at Wadala (2013) along with producing sleeper hits and critically acclaimed films like Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010), Ragini MMS (2011), Lootera (2013) and Ragini MMS 2 (2014). Her latest projects include producing the Hindi version of the film, Vishwaroopam 2 (2016) and producing two shows Kuch To Hai Tere Mere Darmiyan (2015-present) and Pyaar Ko Ho Jaane Do (2015-present). Ekta has also won the Asia’s Social Empowerment Award in 2012.
