Biography

Dhritiman Chatterjee is a veteran Bengali actor, born on 30th May 1945, in Kolkata. He received his education from St. Xavier's Collegiate School and Presidency College and the Delhi School of Economics. He has been making advertisements, short films and is a theatre srtist and reciter. Dhritiman is his screen name and is otherwise known by Sundar Chatterjee. He is a popular name on the English stage in Chennai. He has been a part of the Hindustan Thompson Associates Pvt. Ltd. (HTA) just before he entered the film industry. He is known for his debut with Satyajit Ray’s Pratidwandi (1970). He has worked with filmmakers like Mrinal Sen, Aparna Sen, Deepa Mehta and Jane Campion. He has made his mark in the field of advertising, social communications and documentary filmmaking. As an actor, he has portrayed key roles in movies like Pratidwandi (1970), Padatik (1973), Akaler Sandhane (1980), 36 Chowringhee Lane (1981), Ganashatru (1989), Agantuk (1991),Holy Smoke (1999), Black (2005), Guru (2007), Chaturanga (2008), Noukadubi (2011), Kahaani (2012), Agent Vinod (2012), Ek Phaali Rodh (2014), Shajarur Kanta (2015), Aguntuker Pore (2015), among others. He has received numerous awards for acting and has been on the Jury of the Indian National film Awards. Since 2013, he is working as an anchor of Pradhanmantri (TV Show) in Bengali on ABP Ananda.
