After bagging the Ford Supermodel of the World title at a young age, Bipasha took up modelling and walked on ramps across the world. After debuting in Bollywood with Ajnabee, she went on to star in hit films like Jism, Raaz and No Entry. Born into a Bengali family in Delhi, Bipasha pursued her schooling from Apeejay High School, before moving to Kolkata. Back in Kolkata, she completed her schooling from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. She was spotted by Mehr Jessia Rampal at a hotel in Kolkata, and with her suggestion, Bipasha took up modelling where she won the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel Contest and appeared in several commercials including the controversial Calida commercial. In 1996, she won the Ford Supermodel of the World title. After initial plans of debuting with films like Himalay Putra and cancelled film, Aakhri Mughal, Bipasha made her debut with the film, Ajnabee (2001) which was a moderate success at the box office and earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She also made her Telugu film debut with Takkari Donga (2002) followed by her first horror Hindi film, Raaz (2002) which was a critical and commercial success. After a supporting role in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai (2002) and consecutive flops in the form of Chor Machaaye Shor (2002) and Gunaah (2002), she starred in Pooja Bhatt’s Jism (2003) which was a critical and commercial success. She went on to star in several films like Footpath (2003), Zameen (2003), Aetbaar (2004), Rudraksh (2004), Rakht (2004), Madhoshi (2004), Chehraa (2005), Barsaat (2005) and made her Tamil debut with Sachein (2005). However, all of them were box office disasters. She finally received success with the ensemble cast film, No Entry (2005) which was the highest grossing film of that year and the National Award winning film, Apaharan (2005) followed by critically acclaimed Shikhar (2005) and Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006). Bipasha established her mettle as an actress with the film, Corporate (2006), which was a critical and commercial success followed by blockbuster film, Dhoom 2 (2006). She received moderate success in films like Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (2007) and Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008) along with superhit films like Race (2008) and All the Best: Fun Begins (2009). Basu made her Bengali film debut with Shob Charitro Kalponik (2009) and followed it up with critically acclaimed roles in Pankh (2010), Lamhaa (2010), Aakrosh (2010) and Dum Maaro Dum (2011). After flops in the form of Players (2012) and Jodi Breakers (2013), she re-appeared in the third installment of Raaz franchise, Raaz 3D (2012) which was a huge commercial success. She starred in her first English language film, The Lovers (2013) followed by Humshakals (2014) which bombed at the box office. Her latest projects include roles in moderately successful films like Creature 3D (2014) and Alone (2015). Bipasha was in a relationship with actor Dino Morea (1996-2002), but after their break-up, she started dating actor John Abraham which lasted for eight years until they broke up in 2011. She recently dated actor Harman Baweja but they too broke up in 2014. Apart from films, Bipasha is a fitness expert and has launched her fitness DVD, Love Yourself (2010) followed by Break Free (2011) and Unleash (2014). She is the brand ambassador for Sugar Free and also endorses Aristocrat Luggage and Reebok. In 2011, she was ranked 8 on Times of India’s 50 Most Desirable Women List. The UK magazine Eastern Eye named her the Sexiest Woman in Asia in 2005 and 2007.
