Biography

Ayushmann, who rose to fame with his debut film Vicky Donor, has also won over people with his melodious compositions for his films. With his portrayal of real-life characters on-screen, he has impressed both audiences and critics. Born in Punjab, Ayushmann studied at St. John’s High School and DAV College in Chandigarh, majoring in English literature. He also has a Masters degree in Mass Communication from the School of Communication Studies, Panjab University. Ayushmann’s father, Mr. P. Khurrana is a well-known astrologer in Chandigarh and his mother, Poonam, has a Masters degree in Hindi literature. His brother, Aparshakti, is a radio jockey with OYE 104.8 FM, Delhi. He was the founder of DAV College’s theatre groups "Aaghaaz" and "Manchtantra" and conceptualised and acted in street plays winning prizes in National college festivals like Mood Indigo (IIT Bombay) and Oasis (BITS, Pilani). He also won a Best Actor award for playing Ashwatthama in Dharamvir Bharati’s Andha Yug. In 2004, he won MTV Roadies 2 and landed a job as an RJ at BIG FM, Delhi hosting Big Chai for which he also won the Young Achievers Award in 2007. He became a VJ on MTV with Pepsi MTV Wassup, Fully Faltoo Movies, Cheque De India and Jadoo Ek Baar. He hosted India's Got Talent, Stripped, Music Ka Maha Muqqabla and Just Dance. He debuted as an actor with Shoojit Sircar's Vicky Donor (2012), story on a man who marries a Bengali girl without telling her about his past as a sperm donor. It was a raging commercial and critical success with which Khurrana rose to stardom. He also composed and sang the song “Pani Da Rang” for the movie and it became an instant hit. The film earned him the Filmfare award for the best actor and best playback singer. He also won the Stardust and IIFA award for the best debut, among other accolades. His next was Rohan Sippy's Nautanki Saala (2013), followed by Bewakoofiyaan (2014) and Hawaizaada (2015). However these films were sleeper hits and earned mixed reactions from critics. His latest film Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), a love story between a school dropout and an obese woman, was a hit among audiences and .critics. Ayushmann’s next film will be Agra ka Daabra, the release date of which is yet to be announced. He has also composed and sung popular melodies like Saadi Gali (2013), Tu Hi Tu (2013), O Heeriye (2013) and Mitti Di Khushboo (2014). He married his childhood friend Tahira and they have two children, Virajveer and Varushka.
