Ayan Mukherjee is an Indian film screenwriter and director. His directorial debut, Wake Up Sid in 2006, earned plaudits from the critics and audiences. His next movie, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, went onto become the fourth highest grossing movie of all time. Career: Ayan Mukherjee first stepped onto a film set as assistant to Ashutosh Gowariker, who is married to his sister Sunita, during the shooting for Swades. He then also assisted Karan Johar during the making of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Ayan Mukherjee wrote and directed Wake Up Sid in 2006, a coming-of-age story of a aimless young man. The effort saw the movie perform strongly and Ayan Mukherjee be awarded a Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director. His next movie, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013, would again feature Ranbir Kapoor, this time opposite Deepika Padukone. Personal Life: Ayan Mukherjee was born in a Bengali Brahmin family in Kolkatta on 15th August 1983. His father is Bengali film actor, Deb Mukherjee, and his grandfather is Sashadhar Mukherjee, producer of movies like Love In Simla and Leader. His family also owns and administers the Filmalaya Studios in Mumbai. Ayan Mukherjee is also first cousin to actors Kajol and Rani Mukherjee.
