Biography

Arjun Kapoor, who shot to fame with his debut film Ishaqzaade, impressed audiences with films like 2 States and Gunday and has quickly emerged as one of the leading stars in the industry. Born in Mumbai, to film producer Boney Kapoor and entrepreneur Mona, he is grandson to filmmaker Surinder Kapoor. Arjun is also the nephew of actors Anil and Sanjay Kapoor and the cousin of actress Sonam Kapoor. Arjun also has a sister named Anshula Kapoor. He attended Arya Vidya Mandir but failed to clear the twelfth board exams. Soon after he quit his studies and began working as an assistant director for Nikhil Advani on Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) and Salaam-e-Ishq (2007), and turned associate producer for No Entry (2005) and Wanted (2009). During this time, Kapoor was obese and started working on his body, harbouring an ambition to make it big in the industry. Post this, Kapoor bagged a three-film contract with YRF and debuted with Habib Faisal's crime drama Ishaqzaade (2012) opposite Parineeti Chopra, where he played a spoilt brat who fools and rapes the daughter of a rival political party leader but eventually falls in love with her. He bagged the Zee Cine and Stardust awards for the best male debut. It was a critical and commercial success and made him popular overnight. He featured in a double role in Atul Sabharwal's crime thriller Aurangzeb (2013), followed by director Ali Abbas’s Gunday (2014), an action thriller starring Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra. Gunday was a hit and his bromance with Ranveer Singh was much appreciated. Next in line was the romantic comedy 2 States (2014), opposite Alia Bhatt, an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's novel of the same name. It was based on two IIM students who fall in love outside their castes and struggle to get married. Up next was Homi Adajania's, Finding Fanny (2014), based on five eccentric people who set out on a road trip in search of a woman named Fanny. It was followed by the action drama, Tevar (2015). While Finding Fanny was critically acclaimed, Tevar failed to create a buzz at the box office. He is currently working on R. Balki’s film, titled Ka and Ki. He will be sharing screen space with actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and the film is expected to hit theatres in 2016.
