Anurag Basu is a noted Indian filmmaker best known for his 2012 hit film Barfi! Anurag Basu began his directing career in television, and then in 2002 moved to feature films. He made his directorial film debut in 2003 with the slasher film Kucch To Hai which tanked at the box office. In 2004, he directed the romance drama Murder, which is based on adultery. Despite its strong sexual content, the film was well-received, and cemented the positions of actors Emraan Hashmi and MallikaSherawat in Bollywood. He is known for films that tackle the themes of passion and adultery, which is most evident in his 2007 drama Life in a... Metro, which starred an ensemble cast. He rose to prominence with his 2012 National award winning film Barfi!. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, it was screened in various international film festivals, where it received critical acclaim. Although Basu was criticized for sampling many famous Hollywood classics, it performed well at the native box office, and was even adjudged as the official selection for India’s entry into the Oscars. He is currently directing Ranbir Kapoor for JaggaJasoos (2015). Anurag Basu was born in Chattisgarh. He is married to Tani Basu, and has two daughters.
