WIth a career spanning over three decades, Anupam Kher is widely regarded as one of the finest actors in Indian cinema who is also a two time National Award winner for his performances. Born to a Kashmiri family in Shimla, Anupam Kher completed his education from D.A.V. School and was also an alumnus and former chairperson of National School of Drama. After moving to Mumbai, Anupam made his debut with the film, Aagman (1982), however his role in the film, Saaransh (1984) got him recognition and wide critical acclaim along with winning the Filmfare Best Actor Award. His villainous role in Karma (1986) also received acclaim which was followed by Daddy (1989) for which he received Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance and his first National Special Jury Award. Anupam went on to give memorable performances in films like Ram Lakhan (1989), Chaalbaaz (1989), Lamhe (1991), Beta (1992), Darr (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Haseena Maan Jayegi (1996), Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000) followed by working in English language films like Bend It Like Beckham (2002), Banana Brothers (2003) and Bride and Prejudice (2004) and more recent performances in Kya Kool Hain Hum (2005), Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Maara (2005), which was also produced by him and for which we won the National Film Special Jury Award and received critical acclaim, Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006), Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), C Kkompany (2008), A Wednesday (2008), Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011), Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012), his official Hollywood debut in a pivotal role with the film, Silver Linings Playbook (2012), Special 26 (2013), The Shaukeens (2014) and more recently in Baby (2015). Apart from Bollywood, Anupam acted and wrote a play, Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, about his own life, which also became the theme and tagline for his appearance as a host on TV show, The Anupam Kher Show (2014-present) which is also his latest project. He also started a production company, Karol Bagh Productions, which produced the film, Teree Sang (2009). Anupam has also appeared in Malayalam and Marathi films and also dubbed in Hindi for English 3D animated film like Up (2009) and for Mahabharat 3D (2013). With such an illustrious career he has won several awards apart from national Film Awards that include eight Filmfare Awards, Actor of the Decade Award, two Bollywood movie awards and Padma Shri Award (2004). He was also honoured by Walk of Stars as his hand print was reserved for posterity at Bandra Bandstand, Mumbai. He made his directorial debut with the film, Om Jai Jagadish (2002) which remains the only movie till date directed by him. Anupam’s latest projects include a role in British film, Shongram (2014) and hosting the second season of his show, The Anupam Kher Show. Anupam is married to actress Kirron Kher and has a stepson, Sikander Kher and also has a brother, Raju Kher who is also an actor. Apart from acting, Anupam has served as the chairman of Indian Film Censor Board, National School of Drama (2001-04) and is also the goodwill ambassador of Pratham Foundation, which strives to improve children’s education in India.
