Anil Mehta is an Indian cinematographer who is known for working on blockbusters like Kal Ho Naa Ho, Highway and Rockstar. Anil completed his schooling from Scindia School, Gwalior and earned a degree in commerce from Hindu College, Delhi University. While in Delhi, he joined the National School of Drama and was exposed to the nuances of theatre and filmmaking. He then joined the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Anil started his career by assisting director of photography Barun Mukherjee. He earned his first independent project with Chandita Mukherjee’s series on history of science and technology. Mehta also dabbled in advertising and debuted in cinema with Mani Kaul’s The Cloud Door (1994), which was a short Indo-German dramatic film. His first mainstream work was the critically acclaimed Khamoshi: The Musical, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He worked with Bhansali again on Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), which earned him the National Award for best cinematography. In 2002, he turned writer for the film Agni Varsha. Mehta worked on many popular films like Lagaan (2001), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Veer-Zaara (2004), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Wake Up Sid (2009), Rockstar (2011), Cocktail (2012) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012). His work in Imtiaz Ali’s Highway (2014) was highly praised as it was shot under very difficult circumstances like high altitude and extreme weather conditions. In 2007, Mehta put on the director's cap for the Madhuri Dixit starrer Aaja Nachle. He has also worked on the crime drama Badlapur (2015). His upcoming project is the Shahid Kapoor-Alia Bhatt starrer Shaandaar, which will be releasing in October, 2015.
