Ajay Devgan is an Indian actor, known for his films like Gangaajal, Golmaal and Omkara. Born to popular stunt-choreographer Veeru Devgan and his producer wife Veena, Ajay was exposed to the film industry from a very young age. His brother, Anil Devgan, is also a director. Ajay completed his schooling from Silver Beach High School, Juhu and graduated from Mithibai College. Devgan started off as a child artist in Pyari Behna (1985) and moved on to make his acting debut with Phool Aur Kaante in 1991. He won the Filmfare for making The Best Debut that year. He moved on to do many successful films like Ishq (1997), Zakhm (1998) and Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha (1998). He won a National Film Award for his performance in Zakhm. His film Hum Dil Chuke Sanam (1999), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, received phenomenal response from critics and audiences alike. Ajay was loved in the role of a husband trying to unite his wife with her lover. Ajay’s three most ambitious films Deewangee, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh and Company released in 2002, winning him a Filmfare Award for The Best Villain for Deewangee, a National Film Award for the Best Actor for The Legend of Bhagat Singh and a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor in Company and The Legend of Bhagat Singh. 2003 saw the release of Gangaajal, where Ajay played SP Amit Kumar, another memorable character. Ajay has acted in many off-beat films and even turned producer for 5 films and director for his home-production U, Me Aur Hum. Having proved his mettle as an action hero and a romantic one, Ajay moved to mainstream comedy with Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal (2006), which also had two sequels. The movie was immensely popular and established him as a versatile actor. The same year, he appeared in Vishal Bhardwaj’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello, titled Omkara. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and was also shown at the Cairo Film festival. In more recent times, he has appeared in films like Singham Returns (2014) and Action Jackson (2014). His upcoming films are Drishyam, which will be releasing on 31st July, 2015, Shivaay (2016) and Son of Sardar 2 (2017). He also bagged the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for The Best Performance Male category in 2012. Devgan is a proud recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi Award for Achievement in Bollywood. Apart from films, Ajay has endorsed brands like Sangam Textiles, Sirtex Eazy, Whirlpool and Bagpiper. He is married to famous Hindi actress Kajol. The couple has two children - Nysa and Yug.
