A bizarre product of the renowned Deol family of the Indian Film Industry, Abhay Singh Deol is a Hindi film actor known for his off-beat films and choice of experimental cinema he has worked on. Though part of many successful films and critically acclaimed as a fabulous actor, Abhay got his only Indian nomination for playing the Best Supporting Actor in Farhan Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. He has won Best Actor at the Mahindra Indo-American Arts Council Film Festival in New York City for his part in Manorama Six Feet Under. Career: Abhay Deol began his film career in 2005 with Socha Na Tha, a soft but realistic love story and a perfect portrayal of young indecisive minds directed by Imtiaz Ali. He went on to do Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd which was a success and saw him play a superhero living in disguise. He got critical acclaim for his next two films Ek Chaalis ki Last Local and Manorama Six Feet Under also winning an award for his role of an engineer (aspiring writer) in the latter. His films Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Dev D, Chakravyuh and Shanghai were successes and won him nationwide accolades for his acting skills. Farhan Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is his only mainstream film so far. He has done a cameo opposite Sonam Kapoor in Ranjhanaa though. He has also produced a film called Road Movie and is all set to produce his second, Basra, under his own banner Forbidden Films. Personal Life: Born into a Jat Sikh family to Ajit Singh Deol and Usha Deol, Abhay is the nephew of Bollywood actor Dharmendra, and the cousin of actors Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Esha Deol. Eventhough he hailed from a film background, Abhay was a theatre hound and never intended to get into mainstream Hindi Cinema.
